Suno is the gift that keeps giving.
They have just released „Hooks“ which is basically enabling users to publish their own music videos right there on the platform.
I had to try to use it for something completely different just because I like to break stuff once in a while and also because it’s Friday and also because I don’t like how comedians in other parts of the world are treated.
Ok, back to the topic:
The video length for Hooks is currently kept at 2 minutes, but I expect the length to increase looking at how they handled song lengths.
What this means?
It means (and I just hope this ages well)… it means that Suno is well on its way to become the next AI-driven „MTV“. Artists will produce content to be published on the platform. Suno is also already collaborating with top-tier music artists who offer remix challenges in which users can remix the artist’s songs using AI (with intentional permission by the rights holders).
So, you see, Suno is not just about music. It slowly develops to become culture. A culture which I have been missing for quite some time: a remix culture. It was a big thing in the 90s with HipHop growing increasingly artistic the way it leveraged sampling and quotes from other tracks. I loved the elegance and fluidity of this era – oh, and the fun artists had back then experimenting with copying styles and vibes.
So? Will Suno usher in a renaissance for the remix culture? Maybe. But then again, it’s a platform that will for good reasons guard its business. But Suno might be a precedence of what will come next: AI-infused DAWs (Digital Audio Workstations) – the very tools musicians have been using all over the world not just since the rise of Fruity Loops…. ;-P
I am super hyped for what will happen next regarding the creative use of music leveraging AI.
Oh, and for those telling me I am working with stolen content: yes, maybe that’s true, maybe not. It will be a matter for the courts and I am not a lawyer. I am in this to discover, quench my thirst for innovation and experimentation. I am in this to learn, to evolve and tell those who like to listen what I dug up as I was going along this journey. I will ponder the ups and downs of the industry that is now starting to be fed mostly by AI („Hello LinkedIn Opt-Out! ;-P“). Nothing is either black or white. It’s a mushy, complicated, trashy mess and it’s up to artists and the curios to make beautiful sense of a broken world.
