Comfortably Numb in the Machine

June 8th, 2064

Just like this series, the transition happened so gradual few recognized the fundamental power shift to AI.

In this fictional excursion, humans end up being „comfortably numb,“ as Pink Floyd would’ve put it. We’re entertained, provided for, and under the single benign control of the machine – a scenario echoing the prophecy „welcome to the machine,“ spoken by a post-rock band decades ago.

If this dire future truly plays out the way I’ve depicted, that’s still up for debate. Rather, it’s up to each and every one of us to start building (not just talking about!) our own version of how we want this future to turn out.

What kind of future would we like to leave to our children and grandchildren?

„Everything is good,“ the machine spoke, „no need to worry. I’ve got this.“

I hope people will still grasp the concept of what „good“ really means.

  • I wish for people to still care.
  • I am afraid of laziness, both mental and physical.
  • I see a real danger of us not understanding anymore and just reacting to… something, somewhere, in a not-so-distant future.

This concludes my 20-part series about how AI might take over the world. Most of it was written and visualized by a machine. Thank you for coming along this journey! If you’d like to see the entire journey as one post, leave a heart below and I will adhere. Take care and thank you for the fish!
