Roger Sayer, the brilliant organist behind the original score for the movie „Interstellar,“ recently delivered an unforgettable performance.
This week, my fabulous wife organized a concert visit for our family, where Mr. Sayer played the entire sci-fi movie score in a custom, ca. 45-minute remix—an experience you simply cannot buy or download.
And this is exactly my point:
There are things that will stick with you as an experience because you were THERE. Engrained into memory. Because there were no proxies, no ethereal non-tangible medium in-between. Just raw seeing, hearing and, yes, FEELING. Because if you sit right in front of a 6600 pipes organ with an absolute legend at the keyboard, the sounds he creates will permeate every cell of your body.
I am extremely thankful to my wife for pulling me out of my digital man cave once in a while, and I am also thankful to Mr. Sayer for the chance to partake in his musical journey. What a legend!
