According to a study by „Brand Finance Global 500“ this year, Deutsche Telekom is the most valuable European brand and the most valuable telecommunications brand worldwide. Its brand value increased by 17% to 73.3 billion USD.
Why am I writing this here? Me, who is rather into AI topics and Innovation in general?
Given that success has many parents (not only fathers, mind you) I thought one of them might have been Deutsche Telekom’s choice to step into the AI-Game long before the cool kids did. A gut-feeling.
And, low and behold, digging you find actually some indicators that early investments into AI on multiple levels seems to at least contribute to business success down the road.
Let me explain as I browse through an article from the Deutsche Telekom Website (Link to article):
-
Efficiency and Productivity: According to our CEO, Deutsche Telekom is using AI in around 400 projects to optimize quality and increase productivity. According to Tim Höttges, AI can boost productivity in routine tasks by up to 50 percent. This leads to cost savings and improved competitiveness.
-
Sales & Service: AI-powered solutions like the digital assistant „Frag Magenta“ handled millions of customer inquiries independently last year. AI takes pressure off our colleagues backs while contributing to higher customer satisfaction, positively impacting Telekom customer loyalty which is always good news for our NPS.
-
Network Optimization: Our company already uses AI in fiber optic expansion today. AI-powered systems like T-Cars analyze street data and optimize the planning of fiber optic routes. This has saved 75 percent of the working time for structural planning. It accelerates network expansion and improves infrastructure, leading to long-term competitive advantages. Then we also use internal chatbots for our FTTH teams reducing work on each task from 20 minutes on average down to 2 Minutes.
-
Innovation Leadership: Through its AI investments, Deutsche Telekom positions itself as an innovation leader. Industry analysts at ISG have rated Deutsche Telekom and T-Systems‘ generative AI services as „leading“ (ISG report). This strengthens market position and can lead to new business opportunities.
-
Risk Management: Telekom also recognizes potential risks associated with AI, such as possible data misuse or inaccurate results. Proactive management of these risks through responsible AI use and strong internal AI evangelism (my turf) can help protect company reputation and build stakeholder trust.
-
Future Security: Our CEO says: „AI is here to stay.“ AI Investments are part of the strategy to develop Deutsche Telekom into a leading digital teleco. This aims to secure long-term growth and competitiveness.
