Latest headline from our (not so distant) future:
Can you trust every image or video you come across online? In a world saturated with doctored and manipulated media, leading hardware manufacturers of smartphones, cameras, and other recording devices have introduced a groundbreaking innovation – a dedicated chip that assigns a unique, Blockchain-based hash value to every piece of media created. Say goodbye to the era of uncertainty and step into a future where every image and video comes with a stamp of authenticity.
How this may play out? Here is my prediction on how we will leverage technologies that, until now, were separated in public perception.
- Hardware manufacturers (Smartphones & Cameras, Video and Still) will agree on a dedicated Chip which assigns a Blockchain-based hash value to each piece of media created with the device.
- If media is edited afterwards, the hash will document this automatically.
- Global Blockchain-based Standards for digital photo- videography will be introduced not by law but by the vendors wanting to act as professional tools to do the job (photo, video, audio, you name it).
The Default Rule:
If the image, video, audio doesn’t come with a verifiable hash on the chain, it is either doctored or completely AI.
- AI generated media will not have to be hashed on the chain. Thus, any media without a chain hash will automatically be illegitimate by default.
- Use cases for un-hashed media will flourish in the creative and entertainment industry. Anything legally binding and regarding reporting based on fundamental journalistic values will have to be hashed.
