George Mack recently shared a compelling thread on Twitter about „High Agency“ people and mindsets. Taking inspiration from the visual metaphor in his first post, we can apply this powerful concept to how we approach the evolving AI revolution.
Instead of merely crying wolf and attempting to halt AI development (let’s call this Path A), we should instead become active participants in whatever field we feel comfortable contributing (Path B).
This active participation can take many forms:
- Engaging in discourse about AI ethics and societal impact.
- Designing innovative AI systems.
- Engineering concepts developed by others.
- Evangelizing the topic to broader audiences.
- Teaching and educating on AI-related subjects.
- Facilitating information pass-through and knowledge sharing.
- And much more!
Each of us has the opportunity to contribute meaningfully, rather than passively enduring what’s to come or simply calling for „help.“
