The TV series „Mr. Robot“ taught us a profound lesson: the most vulnerable part in any system isn’t computers, but humans. The show’s main character truly excelled in „Hacking Humans.“
Now, what if this process of human manipulation could be automated, scaled, and personalized by leveraging artificial intelligence?
Reading a recent article with that premise in mind gave me goosebumps. And it should give you goosebumps, too.
One potential approach to this looming dilemma, in my opinion, could come in the form of personalized, open-source AI assistants. These assistants, running locally only, would protect each user from undetected manipulation of their „wetware“ (aka brains), much like anti-virus software of past decades protected our computer systems.
It’s crazy to actually think about these topics without immediately tapping into science fiction territory.
