Emulating the human brain seems to be the holy grail of any artificial intelligence endeavour. IBM has developed a neuromorphic computer called Pohoiki Beach, which is capable of mimicking 8 million neurons.
For comparison, the human brain contains about 100 billion neurons.
So, rest assured, the speculation of an AI apocalypse may yet be postponed for some time.
